Post Road Elementary School students hit the lanes in their Physical Education class this morning, as they continued their bowling unit! This year, P.E. teachers Christopher Dethwick and Brian Golden integrated technology into the unit by providing students with tablets to track their scores.

Third- and fifth-grade students started the class listening to an overview of the rules, how to keep scores, and the rotation for each role on their team. Students rotated as bowlers, scorekeepers, and pinsetters throughout their games.

"The whole purpose is to implement technology in the gym, while playing a game collaboratively,” said Mr. Golden. “The older kids especially have done well with the technology component, and the younger kids really enjoy it. It keeps them focused.”

Benjamin Lewis, a fifth-grade student at Post Road who is an experienced bowler, particularly enjoyed the lesson. He even took the opportunity to give his teammates some advice.

“It’s really fun because I do bowling a lot, and I’m also in a league,” said Benjamin before showing his technique, lifting the ball up to his head and then winding back to step into his throw.

Mr. Dethwick and Mr. Golden walked throughout the gym as students played, teaching them techniques to improve their throws. By the end of the class, several students were bowling strikes to the cheers of their classmates!
